After using a lot of traditional liquid foundations, I decided to branch out and explore the world of cushion foundations. The promise of a lightweight, yet buildable coverage, particularly appealing during warmer months, led me to the Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) Fusion Ink line. This review will encompass both the liquid foundation and the cushion foundation, offering a comprehensive look at their performance, texture, longevity, and overall value. I’ll be focusing on my experiences with shade B30, a common shade for medium skin tones, but will address the range's overall shade selection.

YSL Fusion Ink Foundation: A Liquid Foundation Tale

My initial foray into the YSL Fusion Ink universe was with the liquid foundation. The marketing promised a "second-skin" effect, a seamless blendability, and a long-lasting, natural finish. And to a large extent, it delivered. The packaging is undeniably luxurious, a sleek, weighty bottle that feels premium in the hand. The pump dispenser is efficient, preventing wastage and allowing for precise application.

The texture itself is unlike any other liquid foundation I've encountered. It’s incredibly fluid and lightweight, almost watery in consistency. This initial impression might lead some to believe it lacks coverage, but that couldn't be further from the truth. The "Fusion Ink" moniker is apt; the pigment is incredibly concentrated, offering buildable coverage from sheer to medium-full. One layer provides a beautiful, natural enhancement, evening out the skin tone while still allowing freckles and skin texture to peek through. Building up to medium-full coverage requires minimal effort, and the foundation doesn't cake or feel heavy, even with multiple layers.

The finish is what truly sets this foundation apart. It's not matte, nor is it overly dewy. Instead, it settles into a luminous, almost satin finish, giving the skin a healthy glow without looking oily or greasy. This is crucial because it creates a naturally radiant look that adapts well to different lighting conditions.

Regarding longevity, the YSL Fusion Ink liquid foundation performs admirably. With a primer underneath, it lasts comfortably for eight to ten hours, even in warmer weather. However, touch-ups might be necessary towards the end of the day, especially in areas prone to oiliness like the T-zone. The foundation doesn't significantly oxidize, meaning the shade remains consistent throughout the day, a significant plus for many users.

The shade range is another strong point. While it might not be the most extensive on the market, it caters to a broad spectrum of skin tones, offering a good selection of undertones to ensure a perfect match. Finding a suitable shade within the YSL Fusion Ink range was straightforward, and the B30 I chose blended seamlessly with my skin.

REVIEW: YSL Fusion Ink Cushion Foundation (B30)

The cushion foundation is where the YSL Fusion Ink line truly shines for me. The compact is elegant and practical, perfect for travel or on-the-go touch-ups. The puff applicator is soft and applies the foundation evenly, offering a natural, airbrushed finish.
